5G radome is an important part of 5G base station, and its main function is to protect the antenna system from the interference of the external environment, such as wind, snow, sunlight, biology, etc., and at the same time, improve the antenna accuracy and service life. Here are some features and material selection requirements of 5G radome:
Features of 5G radome:
Low dielectric and low loss: 5G radome materials need to have low dielectric constant and low dielectric loss to reduce the impact on the transmission efficiency of the signal, especially in the millimetre wave band, the signal is more prone to loss, so the dielectric properties of the material are more demanding
Lightweight: in order to meet the design requirements of 5G antenna lightweight, integration and miniaturisation, the radome material needs to develop towards lightweight. For example, the use of GFRPP (super-strong glass fibre reinforced polypropylene resin) can reduce weight by 40% compared with traditional FRP.
Environmental protection: With the increase of environmental protection awareness, environmentally friendly materials are the development trend of 5G radome.
Weather resistance: Radome materials need to be able to withstand various weather conditions, such as cold, heat, ultraviolet rays, wind, frost, rain and snow.
Waterproof performance: 5G radome needs to effectively solve the ‘rain effect’ caused by rain, that is, rain will absorb and reflect a large number of electromagnetic waves, resulting in signal attenuation. Through the research and development of super-hydrophobic anti-rain fade coating, it can avoid the formation of water droplets or water film on the surface of the radome, which can effectively solve this problem.
